Reeds custom made to fit customers needs
All bagpipes bought through Chris Apps Reeds LLC will be fully reeded with custom made Apps reeds. The strength of the reed will be specific to customer requirements.
Woodwork and engraving inspection
Chris will carefully check all parts of your Bagpipe for chips, scratches, splits or other imperfections. Prior to becoming a reedmaker Chris spend years as a cabinet maker and later an antique furniture restorer. He is an expert wood craftsman with a reputation as a perfectionist who will never settle for second best. Should any imperfections be found the pipes would immediately be sent back to the manufacturer for correction.
Pipebag will be checked for leakage
It is very important to ensure the right pipebag is selected and that it is free of holes and leaks and is tied in correctly. Occassionally a bag will have a very small imperfection which will only show once the pipes are played. Any fault will be remedied or a replacement bag will be issued.
The hemp is inspected to ensure a tight fit and ease of tuning
It is essential that waxed hemp is applied correctly to the tuning pins so that the drones can be tuned with ease. It is also essential that the drones fit the stocks tight enought to prevent leakage. If the hemp is incorrectly applied Chris will rehemp the pipes prior to shipping.
Moisture control system is inspected and/or installed
It is essential to have a moisture control system in place no matter what type of pipebag is chosen. The moisture control system will regulate the amount of moisture on the reeds. Too much moisture on the reeds will decrease their lifespan and effect the sound. The type of moisture control system required will depend on the local climate and the owner's playing technique.
Pipes are played
The proof is in the pudding as they say. Chris Apps personally plays the new pipes prior to shipment. If Chris is satisfied that the set is one he would own himself he will ship them out. If not, the necessary corrections will be made.
